Successful Quiz Night at Reigate Manor Raises £1,340 for Loveworks

Reigate Manor proudly hosted a Quiz Night in support of local charity, Loveworks, raising an impressive £1,340. The event, held last night, saw 82 enthusiastic guests come together for a night of fun, delicious food, and charity.

The evening kicked off with a welcoming atmosphere, as attendees enjoyed a sumptuous curry prepared by Reigate Manor’s talented kitchen team halfway through the evening. The night continued with an engaging quiz that kept teams on their toes, contributing to the event’s lively spirit. The winners of the quiz were Quizzy Rascals who achieved a successful score to take home the trophy.

Giles Thomas, Operations Director Manor Collection, praised his team for their hard work and dedication, saying, “A big thank you to everyone involved, especially our kitchen staff for serving such a delicious curry, and to the quiz team for managing a fantastic quiz night. It was great to see our community come together for such a worthy cause.”

The funds raised will support Loveworks’ vital work in helping local people in need. Loveworks is committed to tackling food poverty and providing essential support to vulnerable individuals and families in the area.

Reigate Manor and Loveworks look forward to hosting more events like this in the future, continuing to make a positive impact in the community.

Reigate Manor Retain Top Food Hygiene Rating

Reigate Manor are delighted to announce that they have retained their 5 star food hygiene rating.

In December 2008 the Food Standards Agency agreed a National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme. It is now running in all areas of Wales, Northern Ireland and in 99% of England.

The food hygiene rating scheme is designed to ensure that businesses that are broadly compliant with food law and are managing food safety risks will receive a rating of three and those who are managing the risk well will receive a rating of four or five. However, significant lapses in any of the scoring criteria can also have a significant effect on the rating.

Receiving a 5 star rating is by no means easy. So we must give a huge well done to Head Chef Will and his team for all their hard work in achieving this rating. Congratulations!

As ‘Normal’ Returns

Dear all,

On Monday we received the news that our entire industry has been waiting to hear since March 2020. The nearest thing to ‘normal’ conditions are returning as of Monday 19th July and many of the restrictions imposed over the past 15 months will be removed.

Therefore masks will no longer be required to walk around the hotel, although still advised in crowded spaces. Social distancing and the rule of 6 will no longer be enforced, meaning larger tables from unlimited households are now a possibility in our restaurant. You are now also welcome to grab drinks directly from the bar as we are no longer restricted to just table service. Something I know our food & beverage team will be thrilled about.

It has not escaped my attention, however, that many will be moving at different paces as we slowly return to ‘normal’. Therefore we ask that everyone continues to show the same care and respect to each other that we’ve seen from you all throughout the pandemic. We ourselves will be keeping the additional hand sanitiser stations and protective screens around all our hotels and giving our staff the choice as to whether or not they wish to wear a mask.

Without bringing the mood down, covid-19 is still very much among us. And although brighter skies are certainly ahead, we will continue to show caution and consideration to everyone no matter how they decide to move forward from the past year.

Thank you again for all your support and I look forward to seeing you back with us very soon.

Giles Thomas
Operations Director

Bedroom Refurbishments at Reigate Manor

We are delighted to say our Manor Suite at Reigate Manor has had a well-needed refurbishment.

Both rooms 401 and 415 have been cleared out and completely transformed this summer, with new wallpaper, mirrors, lighting and more. You will, however, still find our traditional 4 poster bed in room 401. Something I’m sure many will be delighted to hear.

Both rooms are now available to book directly through our website or over the phone.

Long-awaited garden area opens at Reigate Manor

After over a year of being cooped up inside we are all more than a little desperate to enjoy a little sunshine. And now, at Reigate Manor, we finally can. Our new garden space has finally arrived and we are over the moon with it. Using artificial grass and a number of large wooden planters, the new space has transformed four old parking spaces into something altogether different. Opened by General Manager, Vikas and Operations Director, Giles Thomas on Thursday 3rd June 2021, the garden extends out from the original patio at the front of the hotel, offering guests more relaxed seating and a place to enjoy a drink in the sun.

When asked about the garden, Vikas said “I couldn’t be happier with how it has turned out. It has been so nice to already see so many guests enjoying the new garden with their families. It’s exactly how we envisioned the space being used.”

Giles added, “For many years we have discussed the idea of transforming a small section of our car park into something that will help improve our guests’ experience with us. I’m so pleased that we finally decided to do it, and, as you can see, it’s a fantastic addition to the hotel.”

The new spacious front lawn has opened just in time for the hotel’s reopening and the arrival of some glorious sunshine. Why not pop down and enjoy the area for yourself.

Manor Collection join the Hoteliers’ Charter

The Hoteliers’ Charter was drawn up in 2020 to raise the profile of the hospitality industry and promote hospitality as a profession of choice to parents, schools, colleges, universities and careers influencers.

The charter was conceived by Sally Beck, General Manager of The Royal Lancaster hotel, when she called upon the industry to change the perception of hospitality careers. Speaking on the Hoteliers’ Charter website Sally says, ‘sadly we are still known for long hours and poor salaries. TV programmes are doing nothing to dispel the negative noise about working in our kitchens and our hotels. The government, now needing to legislate on how we handle service charges and tipping does not do us any credit either.’

By being a part of the Hoteliers’ Charter we are trying to shout about all the good things that the industry is doing so that potential employees and parents can know that they will be supported and developed in their career for the long term. We commit to:

  1. Developing team members through training, apprenticeships, coaching and mentoring, positioning hotel roles as careers, not just jobs.
  2. Support The Hospitality Commitment to respect team members’ work/life balance, rotas and working hours, providing sufficient notice for changes and requests. As our members trade seven days a week, a range of shift patterns are available to support working families, students and part time working.
  3. Support the ambition to end low pay, believe passionately in giving people opportunities to develop their careers, and give access to financial and pension guidance.
  4. Champion a fair and transparent service charge/tronc/gratuities system where all monies are distributed with only agreed costs retained.
  5. Offer colleagues access to an employee assistance programme, to provide confidential support across all facets of their physical and mental wellness, both in and outside the workplace.
  6. Provide a positive and nourishing workplace environment and culture for colleagues, nurturing social networks around their teams and facilitating social activities to build cohesive workplace communities.
  7. Support industry charities, and other charities relating to the community they serve, respecting and encouraging colleagues’ commitments to additional community endeavours.
  8. Drive environmentally sustainable businesses with a commitment to reduce, reuse and recycle, and champion the government’s commitment to be carbon neutral by 2050.
  9. Advocate diversity, inclusion and equality, offering English lessons to colleagues where required and taking practical measures to make hotels accessible for all disabilities.
  10. Commit to the Modern Slavery Act and ensure that all suppliers act in accordance with the core values of the Hoteliers’ Charter and The Hospitality Commitment.

To learn more about what our membership within the Charter means for us, contact our Operations Manager, Giles Thomas at gt@manorcollection.co.uk.
